Admissions Process

Choosing the right school for your child is a very important decision and we want to make this as simple as possible.  Our Admissions team is here to ensure that at the end of the process you feel safe in the knowledge that you have made the right choice for your child.

The usual points of entry to St. Edmund’s are at Nursery, Reception, Form 3 (7+), Form 7 (11+) and Form 9 (13+). Children may also join us for other year groups subject to the availability of places and satisfactory completion of our admissions/assessment process.

All parents will need to complete our registration form and pay a £75 non-refundable registration fee.

ENTRY IN EARLY YEARS (NURSERY AND RECEPTION)

Children wishing to join Reception are invited for a short individual visit to meet the Head of EYFS who will assess his or her suitability for the school in a very informal way.

STEP 1 SEND AN ENQUIRY

Please email or phone our Registrar, Annabella Toms. She will guide you through the Admissions process which will vary according to the age of your children.

STEP 2 BOOK A VISIT

We love welcoming visitors! Whether you visit on one of our Open Mornings or for a private tour, this is the best way to get a sense of St. Edmund’s. We invite all visitors to spend time with Mr Walliker, our Headmaster, to discuss your child. This is also a valuable opportunity to meet our children and staff, as well as explore our site and facilities.

STEP 3 REGISTERING YOUR CHILD

Completing a registration form formally registers your interest for your child to join St. Edmund’s and means we will keep you up to date regarding the availability of places in your child’s year group. At this point we request the payment of a non-refundable £75 registration fee. Once your completed registration form and payment have been received, your application will be processed and you will move to the next step in the admissions process.

STEP 4 TASTER SESSIONS

Once your child is registered with us they will be able to enjoy a taste of what St. Edmund’s has to offer. Children are invited to spend a morning in our older Nursery class, as well as a morning in Reception, prior to them joining Reception in the Michaelmas Term. You will be asked to secure your child’s place by acceptance of our offer, in conjunction with our Terms & Conditions, and paying a refundable deposit (refunded in the final ‘extra’s’ invoice issued at the end of the term in which they leave).

STEP 5 FEES, SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES

If you would like your child to be considered for a means-tested bursary you are welcome to apply for this once you have completed the registration form. If you would like additional information on Fees, Bursaries, Childcare Vouchers, Tax-Free Childcare or the Free Entitlement Scheme, please contact our Bursary Department.

STEP 6 GETTING TO ST. EDMUND’S

ENTRY IN PREP (FORMS 5-8)

Informal assessments (English and maths) take place for children who are registered to join us in Forms 5 and 6. Form 7 (11+) is our main entry point in to our Prep School. Children who wish to join the school for Form 7 (11+) entry are required to register in advance of the entrance assessments which take place in the November of Form 6. Prior to the assessments candidates will be invited to participate in a group 11+ Taster session which takes place in the Michaelmas Term of Form 6. The entry assessments for Form 7 include papers in English (comprehension and creative writing) and maths, as well as participation in a range of team building and leadership challenges. All candidates will be interviewed by the Headmaster or a member of the Senior Management team. Prior to the assessments, the pupil's current school is contacted to request a report on their progress and potential. The entry assessments for Form 7 (11+) are used to identify candidates eligible for scholarship awards for academic excellence. Scholarship candidates for Art, Drama, Music, Performing Arts and Sport awards will be assessed in the Lent term of Form 6 and further details can be found in our scholarship section. Form 8 entry is only an option if a place is available. If this occurs, children registered for entry into this year group will be invited in for a trial visit. During this visit they will experience normal lessons and complete assessments in English and maths and have an informal interview. Please note that no preparation is required for our assessments. The aim is for us to see where your child would sit in their current cohort and more importantly that they will be able to access our mainstream curriculum particularly at GCSE level.
